The modern day Socrates is John Mayer.

John Mayer is just a normal musician with his own opinions like everybody else.  Although, his beliefs have gotten him a lot of bad publicity and he has lost many fans.

For Example, John Mayer has a lot of African American fans and was asked would he hook up with a black girl. His reply:  "My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I've got a Benetton heart and a fuckin' David Duke cock. I'm going to start dating separately from my dick."

Example two, John Mayer even has his own crayon philosophy.
"Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you're really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I've got a few missing. It's ok though, because I've got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the 8-color boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation... so when I meet someone who's an 8-color type... I'm like, 'hey girl, magenta!' and she's like, 'oh, you mean purple!' and she goes off on her purple thing, and I'm like, 'no - I want magenta!'"

I’m not trying to make John Mayer look bad if that’s what it seems like. I actually really like him and feel like he is entitled to his own opinion. That’s how I feel with Socrates, he was criticized for his independence and undermining the Athenian society but it was what he believed in.

Socrates was sentenced to the death because the majority of the society didn’t agree with him and didn’t like how he spoke his mind. John Mayer speaks his mind and is talked about so harshly because first off many people think the things he says are hurtful. Second, he’s a celebrity and people, like Perez Hilton, will find any gossip about a celebrity to make them look bad.

In a sum, John Mayer is a modern day Socrates because he speaks his mind and puts his beliefs out there no matter how anyone feels.

The Unexamined Life Is Worth Living For.

I honestly do not agree with Socrates statement "the unexamined life is not worth living for." I don't really understand why in order for me to live I have to examine my life. Why couldn’t people like Socrates forget about everything and just live? I don't really care why the earth is round, or why I have two legs etc. Even if or when we find reasons for all of these stupid questions, how is it going to affect me? Yes I will think about the world differently but in theory nothing really changes.

All of this questioning and searching for facts is a waste of time to me. First of all we are never going to get answers for half of the questions we have.  Secondly, usually when we find an “answer” how do I know that that  “answer” isn’t something that someone made up, which brings me to the question Why?, which will ultimately leave us in an eternity of us trying to figure out this problem.

Actually, there not even problems. There just stupid questions.  So to me I feel like asking unsolvable questions that waste my time is not worth living for.

I must say that the many questions that people have about life are interesting, and me myself would like to figure these unsolved mysterious. But I have accepted the fact that we are never going to get a 100% answer for anything. For all I know everything that I have ever learned could all be a lie. It’d be really funny if the earth was actually flat, but I guess we will never know.

Eulogy

Lauren was always such an outgoing positive person. She never liked being sad or mad so she never surrounded herself around that kind of energy. If she could be here with us right now, she wouldn’t like all of the depression and tears. She would probably crack a joke or go get some food. Lauren always liked food. I even remember her favorite.  She loved strawberries and Reeses. Her favorite dessert was strawberry cheesecake or passion fruit sorbet.  Laurens favorite places to eat were Chipotle and Jamba Juice. That’s all she needed to survive.

Lauren was such a loving person. She cared about her family and friends. She only surrounded herself around people that made her laugh and kept her happy. This is because Lauren was always joking around with people and she loved to make others smile. She was open-minded about many things and treated people with respect. She was a caring, helpful, and a supportive friend. That’s why she was such a wonderful person to be around. She was also always listening to music, and she would sing aloud but was always horrible at it. She didn’t care though, it just reminded everyone how free spirited and care-free she was.

This girl was always eager to have fun. She hated dull and awkward moments. I remember whenever it was really quiet or if she was ever really bored she would always find a way to make everything a million times better. Lauren always had something on her mind. This meant she always had something to talk about. She was such a HUGE talker. She just talked all the time about anything. This at times could get annoying but I wouldn't want it any other way. Lauren was only quiet if she needed to be because of the setting she was in or because she was upset about something. But then again Lauren rarely got upset. Lauren would be extremely mad but still have a smile on her face. It was weird but it was because she hated drama and she just wanted everyone to be happy.

It’s so heartbreaking that Lauren cannot be here with us today, but we will always remember her smile, laugh, and bubbly personality. She loved and cared about everyone and never was cruel or mean to anyone. Lauren is greatly missed but we will continue to remember her in our hearts.
