Candide

Candides punishments do not fit the crime. I feel as if this whole book is exaggerated , and that is what makes it a parody. The first unfair punishment was when he got banished from the castle. He was just "experimenting" with Cunégonde. He got kicked out into the real world not knowing anything about it. How could you do that to the guy? Then the next thing that comes to my mind is when Candides skin is basically ripped  from his body because he runs the gauntlet twice. A gauntlet is when u walk and people like throw weapons at you. Who does that? He got this punishment because he decided to take a walk, and he didn't know what the consequences were. That is so tragic and disgusting.  I kind of feel bad for Candide because he doesn't know any better. He lived in his own happy bubble and all of sudden somebody popped it and he had to face reality. The thing that sucks is that he has to face all of these tragic beatings and his new brutal life out of no where. I'm not saying Candide should get special treatment because of his situation, but someone should give this guy a break because he doesn't know anything.
